I spent a few years touring and find clear parallels between being on stage performing and being in the pit taking photos; the wait before the start of the show, hearing the crowd build, walking on, a last check of settings, and we’re off!
My take home from both experiences is you can never over prepare!
I try to represent the artist in a way that I hope they are happy with, attempting to capture the essence of the performance itself and also the bits in between, where there is often something unexpected and beautiful.
Each live performance is unique, vital and will never be repeated. As photographer on the night, the challenges are equally unique as well as being intrinsic to the experience. I believe that it is within this challenge that all the good shots can be found, and that's what drives me to go and get them.
